An honest, opinionated guide to where to eat in Bali — from a cook who lives here.

The only gossip I follow is food and chef gossip.

I’m a cook. I like to eat, and I like things that surprise me. That’s basically the whole brief.

This website exists for one reason: friends keep asking me where the good spots are in Bali, and I keep finding myself spending way too long replying — thinking, rethinking, second-guessing the order of the list. So I figured I’d just make it public.

Everything here is opinion. If you don’t find the places good, well, honestly — you’re just wrong. (I’m kidding. Mostly.)

What I’m hoping is that this can give people some real options, written by someone who actually cares about the food, so nobody has to give themselves anxiety trying to figure out where to eat in Bali.

What you’ll find here

Restaurant reviews from across the island — Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Uluwatu, Sanur, and the smaller corners in between. Italian, Thai, Japanese, French, modern American, and the local food I love most: warungs, bakso joints, nasi campur stalls, the bakeries doing things their own way. Fine dining when it earns it. Cheap eats when they’re better than the fine dining.

Most reviews are short. All of them are honest. Nothing on this site is sponsored unless I clearly tell you it is.

Stay in the loop

New reviews go up regularly. If you want them in your inbox before everyone else hears, click the link below for when I eat out.
